Be Safe, Get Your Shots!
I just finished reading an article in this month’s edition of the Journal of Adolescent Health that demonstrated that the Hepatitis B vaccine lasts for 25 years. I think it’s amazing that a little series of three shots, given when you’re a baby, can protect you from a potentially deadly disease for 25 years!
It also makes me think, however, about all of the young adults out there who are not protected–from Hepatitis B, or meningococcus, or even tetanus. In most school districts, they check our shot records for the last time right before we start high school. After that, we’re on our own and new immunizations are being developed every day that can protect us from–you guessed it–potentially deadly diseases! Who wouldn’t want that?!!
Young adulthood is a great time to make sure that you’re covered. If you’re 18 or younger, immunizations can still be paid for by a government program if you don’t have insurance. If you’re older, come in anyway and we’ll figure out a way to help you get any shots you may need. Immunizations are like seat belts. They keep us safe. Make sure that you’re protected!
