The Corner's Doula Programming

A doula is a trained professional who provides support during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. The Corner Health Center offers optional doula services to our prenatal and Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) families. Doula services are no cost to families. We hope to expand this program to provide doula services to the community after the pilot program has been successful.

What services can a doula provide?

Prenatal and birth: A birth doula meets with expecting families during pregnancy to get to know the family’s hopes and plans for the upcoming birth. Before the baby is born, a doula can provide emotional support and education about pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care. A birth doula comes to the birth to provide emotional and physical support. A doula can help advocate for you, help you understand information given to you by your medical team, and support any people you have at birth with you like your partner.

Postpartum: A postpartum doula supports the family’s transition home with the new baby. A postpartum doula can provide emotional support, help around the house, help with the new baby, provide information, and help locating resources for basic needs like food and baby items. Our doulas, MIHP team, and medical care team work closely together to ensure families have what they need to be successful.

More information about doulas and how they help families can be found here. You will have a detailed conversation with your doula about the services they are able to provide before moving forward!
