Our goal with the Youth on Board program is to help interested youth who are already involved at the Corner Health Center increase their engagement with the organization and enhance their leadership skills. Their personal knowledge of and experience with the Corner Health’s programs and services will allow them to provide a unique perspective on the Board of Directors’ decision-making process.

Youth interested in becoming Board Members will:

  • Meet with Corner staff prior to a board meeting to review the agenda
  • Observe a board meeting between January and April
  • Complete the Youth Assessment Tool
  • Complete a Board Application

The Board will review applications and select interested youth for interviews


Title: Youth Board Director

Preferred competencies or characteristics for Youth Board Directors: Passion and enthusiasm for the Corner Health Center, its mission, and the communities served.

Time commitment: 2-year commitment

Be expected to attend all Board meetings. Meetings are held in the evening on the last Monday of every month, from September-May. (There is typically no meeting in December) A meal is provided at every meeting. Meetings may be virtual or in-person.

Receive $15.00 for each meeting they attend, in compensation for your time.

From Bylaws: Any director absent without just cause from three consecutive meetings shall be deemed to have resigned her/his position when two-thirds of all the directors decide that it would be in the best interests of the corporation to do so.(Article VI:4)

Travel commitment: Youth Board Directors must attend monthly meetings remotely or in person.

Special needs, events, requirements: Youth Board Directors are expected to make every effort to attend additional special events in the community presented by or for the Corner Health Center.

Perks: Youth Board Directors may have the opportunity to travel with Corner Health leaders for meetings, conferences, programs, and presentations. During this time, networking opportunities may arise to connect with local and statewide leaders.

Training: Youth Board Directors will attend a New Board Director orientation workshop. Youth members will receive additional Board Director skills training under the facilitation of a current Board member or Board Director advisor.

Stipend: $15.00 per meeting

As a Youth Board Member, you will: Receive training and support from Corner Staff and Adult Board Members to ensure success in this role and receive a mentor from the Board.
