In Partnership with Mexiquenses Unidos en Michigan, The Corner Health Center Offers Spanish Interpreters to Patients

YPSILANTI, Mich. (cornerhealth.org) -- In pursuit of breaking barriers to health and wellness care for young people, The Corner Health Center is proud to announce its partnership with Mexiquenses Unidos en Michigan to provide Spanish interpreters to our Spanish-speaking patients, Oct. 16.
Join us for our Open House Tuesday, Oct. 29, where you can learn more about all our new and existing services! More information can be found in the flyers attached.
Extensively trained, our interpreters are prepared to support our patients and staff for clinic services, behavioral health, perinatal health, and more. Moving forward, interpreters will be available for patients in person Mon. and Tues. Availability over the phone will be offered five days a week (Mon.–Fri.). The Corner’s Spanish-speaking support line is available upon request when scheduling an appointment over the phone.
"Reducing barriers to care for young people in Ypsilanti has always been the spirit of The Corner,” Ashley Anderson, Director of Programs, said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to build trust amongst the Spanish-speaking population here. Having trained, onsite interpreters is just the first step in making sure every young person in our community knows they have somewhere safe to go for judgment-free, quality, and affordable care.”
A recipient of the 2022 Hometown Health Hero Award (from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Michigan Public Health Institute), Mexiquenses Unidos en Michigan has worked with the Washtenaw County Health Department, University of Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor Public Schools, and more, all to provide high-quality care and support to Latinx families.
“Mexiquenses Unidos de Michigan’s mission is to support and improve the wellbeing of low-income Latinx families in Michigan, particularly Washtenaw County,” said Maria Militizer, president of the organization. “Over the past six years, Mexiquenses has collaborated with community members to create multiple programs and initiatives aimed at social change through addressing social determinants of health to improve the well-being of Spanish-speaking immigrant communities. Our goal is to increase access to healthcare, mental health/SUD, and other social services to Spanish-speaking residents, so we are excited to partner with The Corner Health Center!”
