The Corner Health Center joins statewide effort to promote equitable access to vaccinations and other healthcare services for Michigan residents with disabilities
YPSILANTI, Mich.(CornerHealth.org) โ The Corner Health Center has been certified as a Most Valuable Provider (MVP) by the Michigan Vaccination Partners. Michigan Vaccination Partners is a collaboration of the Autism Alliance of Michigan, Disability Rights Michigan, and the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Institute (MI-DDI) at Wayne State University. These organizations joined together to optimize the collective impact of the COVID-19 Supplement IV grants they each received to ensure greater equity and access to vaccinations for people disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.
"We are very excited about this new collaboration and proud to be designated as an MVP. We look forward to providing exceptional care and service to these patients," said the Corner's Clinic Director Lori Bennett, FNP.
The vision of the Michigan Vaccination Partners is to create healthy communities for all. This vision is achieved by engaging healthcare providers across the state to become certified as a Most Valuable Provider (MVP). MVPs offer consistent, accessible, and welcoming vaccination and health clinic experiences to all people in Michigan, including those with disabilities.
Recently, The Corner Health Center completed the requirements to become certified as a Most Valuable Provider including:
- All frontline healthcare workers completed online MVP Disability Training.
- The site is sensory-friendly and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- The site collects information on disability status.
- They promote immunization and other clinic/site events as MVP/disability friendly.
As an MVP certified provider, The Corner Health Center has access to resources and benefits including free consultations regarding accessibility and sensory friendly strategies; free sensory kits and training videos; free technical assistance regarding public health data from Population Health Outcomes and Information Exchange (PHOENIX); and free promotional materials and recognition on the MVP website and social media.
Sharon Milberger, MI-DDI Director and a Michigan Vaccination Partners lead investigator, believes this work will have a significant and lasting positive impact on the health outcomes of those individuals who most often experience barriers to essential healthcare services including vaccinations and health screenings.
โHaving The Corner Health Center join our network of MVP certified sites is an exciting and critical step toward meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities across Michiganโ said Milberger. โAll Michiganders deserve equitable access to welcoming and high-quality healthcare services regardless of where they live in the state.โ
โBecoming an MVP site benefits healthcare providers and the communities they serve. We are thrilled that The Corner Health Center has become MVP certified and hope other Local Health Departments and healthcare providers will join this important initiativeโ said Terri Adams, Director of the Division of Immunization, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
