The School Wellness Program (SWP) is a collaboration with the Corner Health Center and Washtenaw International Middle Academy and High School (WIHIMA), made possible through a grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Our SWP is located inside WIHIMA to make it easy for students to access quality health care and mental health support.
The SWP provides physical wellness and mental health services for youth ages 10 to 21 at WIHIMA. The program is staffed by a registered nurse, a fully licensed mental health professional, and a program coordinator. Services are available to all eligible youth who reside in Washtenaw County, or any county adjacent to Washtenaw through School of Choice. Individual counseling as well as some education and outreach is provided in the catchment area.
Services provided include:
- Physical and emotional health assessments
- Management and support for chronic conditions
- Mental health counseling and crisis support
- Health education for students, families, and school staff
- Referrals and care coordination with outside providers
- Medicaid and insurance enrollment assistance
Mikayla Miller is the registered nurse.
Adenike Griffin is the licensed clinical social worker.
Aminah Jefferson is the program coordinator.
