YPSILANTI, Mich. (cornerhealth.org) -- The Corner Health Center's long-standing Corner Store has been named in Kate Jones Share's honor. The recognition came this past spring including new signage outside the pantry and a honorary plaque.

"It means so much for me and all the lovely people I worked with to help build The Corner Store to what it is today," Share stated. "I love the store, every time I bring a patient down... I just love The Corner Store!”

Kate, The Corner's nutritionist and former MIHP Manager, first started at The Corner Health Center in 1985 as a volunteer Health Educator while she was still an undergraduate student. Share worked with teen moms in the Peer Education Program and later volunteered with the Theatre Troupe before she graduated with her M.S. degree in nutrition at the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

In the late 1990’s, Share helped to start a food cabinet to meet the needs of our community's young people, specifically young mothers in need. The “store” was a closet right outside the patient bathroom. With a lot of determination, Kate and her team worked to fundraise and apply for multiple grants to make the cabinet a bigger space for our patients and to have more resources available to them. That cabinet has transformed into our illustrious Corner Store pantry program you can visit today. With her and her team’s effort, Kate helped to build a cornerstone of The Corner Health Center.

In 2023, The Corner Store saw 2,349 pantry visits for families and distributed 22,205 pounds of food to people in need! She has been an integral part of The Corner’s story, the epitome of what it means to be a part of The Corner Health Center. Learn more about our Corner Store pantry.
