Current Volunteer Opportunities
Location:
Corner Health Center, 47 N Huron St, Ypsilanti, MI 48197
Job Description:
Volunteers will lead day to day operations of the Store and Food Pantry, under staff supervision. The Corner Store is a safety net program that provides beneficial tangible support for Corner patients. It is stocked with a variety of personal care items, household goods, and infant care products. A free food pantry is included in the Store to provide patients with access to healthy food.
Time Commitment:
A minimum donation of 4 hours/week requested. This is a weekly shift – the same day and time each week.
Works with:
Corner team members, including staff, interns, other volunteers and our youth.
Duties and Responsibilities: Tasks may vary depending on which shift being worked.
- Check volunteer bulletin/clipboard for requested daily tasks
- Assist patients with their shopping experience in the Corner Store
- Record and maintain accurate data of client’s visit/items selected
- Maintain accurate inventory of all store and pantry items
- Organize and restock items
- Light cleaning (sweeping, dusting, wipe down fridge etc.)
- Responsible for accurately signing in and out of the volunteer binder each shift
- Encourage patients to take advantage of healthy pantry options, useful Store products, and share information about Corner programs and/or services
- This role can also expand/evolve into other tasks if after you gain experience as the Store volunteer you would like to explore additional responsibilities
Qualifications:
- Must be 18+ years of age
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Maintaining privacy and confidentiality of all personal information
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to stand, lift, walk and bend, and go up and down stairs
- Physical capability to lift up to 20lbs. Accommodations can be made as needed
- Comfortable working with people of varying sexual, gender, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Personal awareness and emotional maturity
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Job Description:
Outreach Volunteers help provide programmatic and outreach support for Corner Health Center at events/programs in the community. Many opportunities take place within the community, which supports our visibility and accessibility. Other opportunities help support our progams that take place at Corner or with a partnering organization.
Time Commitment:
Times and days vary depending on the request and need. Outreach volunteers will be notified of upcoming opportunities and can sign up on an as needed basis, according to their schedule.
Works with:
Corner team members, including staff, interns, other volunteers, youth and community partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: Tasks may vary depending on which shift being worked.
- Tabling at events
- Assisting with cooking class prep/clean up and shopping
- Making resource bags and mailers for larger events
- Maintain accurate inventory of all store and pantry items
- Distributing flyers in the community
- Conducting surveys
Qualifications:
- Organizational skills: ability to prepare for events, setting up supplies and materials efficiently and creatively
- Communication skills: Ability to engage with people and share information
- Maintaining privacy and confidentiality of all personal information
- Adaptable: willingness to provide support in various tasks and events
- Physical capability to lift up to 20lbs. Accommodations can be made as needed

Job Description:
Engagement Volunteers work directly with the youth, offering mentorship, facilitating discussions, and providing educational presentations in partnership with the Corner’s overarching programs team and health education mission. These activities can happen on-site and at locations throughout the community, including local schools.
Time Commitment:
Varies. A minimum donation of 2-4 hours/week requested depending on group length. Some groups run weekly for 1.5 hours and others are series based (e.g. 1 hour for 6 weeks)
Works with:
Corner team members, including staff, interns, other volunteers and our youth.
Duties and Responsibilities: Tasks may vary depending on which shift being worked.
- Help with ongoing programs and work directly with youth by becoming mentors
- Running focused youth groups
- Working with the Youth Leadership Council
- Giving health presentations on diverse topics like hygiene, informational services, gender, and consent workshops, etc.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18+ years of age
- Leadership: Ability to guide and mentor youth
- Communication skills: Comfortable speaking to groups of people about various informative health topics and have knowledge or specialty in relevant health topics.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Collaboration skills: Ability to work with other volunteers and program participants on projects
- Comfortable working with people of varying sexual, gender, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Personal awareness and emotional maturity
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Training:

- Group specific training provided, unless you are a proven professional in a related skills-based group. (e.g. substance use, nutrition, wellness, etc.)

Job Description:
Remote Volunteers can help The Corner behind the scenes from the comfort of their own homes. An array of activities can help the Corner meet its mission without requiring onsite support or direct patient and client interaction. Remote Volunteers can be located anywhere and work on a schedule that is convenient for them!

Duties and Responsibilities:
- creating social media posts
- searching for, and identifying, events and venues for Theatre Troupe to present
- editing flyers and brochures
- inputting survey results
- scheduling social media posts
- research on adolescent health topics
Qualifications:
- Digital literacy: Proficient in social media platforms, creating, editing, and scheduling online content, including Canva, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook etc.
- Research skills: Ability to find events for groups and collect information about them. Background knowledge of local organizations and events in Washtenaw County is preferred
- Communication skills: Comfortable making calls, scheduling, and sharing program objectives
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Collaboration skills: Ability to work with other staff
- Comfortable working with people of varying sexual, gender, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Personal awareness and emotional maturity
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
